From Chile

Alice!!It’s a huge pleasure to have the chance to write you!I had a real good therapy with a Chilean psychologist (I’m Chilean, too), and she told me about you. Then I bought The Drama Of The Gifted Child, and I felt so identified with every single line, that more than literature it was a real therapy for me to read that book. It’s amazing the clarity, lucidity and bravery you show in your books. Now I’m reading For Your Own Good, and for me it’s been as therapeutic as The Drama. My aim is to study Psychology now. I think that if we want new men and women, a new generation, therapy (maybe joined with meditation) is the way. We need more awareness, more consciousness and the bravery to accept the own childhood. So the task of Psychology is enormous and, in my opinion, much more important than Medicine for mental and physical health.Your books have been of great help for me. Accepting the pain, sadness and the emptyness of not being accepted and loved as a child have given me the freedom I needed to be healthy and, if the chance comes, to have kids without self-destructive habits (as I had).THANK YOU very, very much, Alice. Your work will help the whole Mankind sooner or later. M
AM: Thank you for your kind letter. It is good to know that the Drama could speak to people in Chile as well. But it doesn’t represent at all the psychology that is offered today at universities in Europe and the USA where the issue of child abuse is still taboo.. Let us know how it is in Chile. Fortunately you had a therapist open to this subject.
