dear alice miller…
i have just recently finished reading your book ‘the body never lies’ … and found it immensely helpful…
i was repeatedly beaten as a child by both my mother and father and left home at 17 after my father tried to strangle me….
for years beginning in early childhood (i am now 61 years old) i have suffered from a variety of physical problems (migraines, debilitating back pain, mysterious fatigue, etc.) … on some level i have always understood there was some connection between these physical problems and my childhood misery … i tried all sorts of therapy and sometimes i would be alright for a short time, only to fall ill again ….it was only after reading your book that i realized that these many physical illnesses were and are part of a cycle of ‘compulsive repetition’ — a cry for help, to make others SEE the hidden emotional pain … and hopefully ‘save’ me…
with this new insight (not surprisingly) my current body pains have eased …
my biggest fear now is that because of my inability to give my 40 year old son the love he needed when he was small i have passed this problem on to him in the form of anxiety and a sleep disorder … do you have any advice that might help me help my son at this time?
thank you again for speaking out on behalf of all the abused and wounded children so many of us are inside….

AM: you can’t change the past. now, it is only your son alone who can help himself if he wants to find out how he has suffered as a child. he will find his enlightened witnesses if you don’t hinder him to do so. i am glad that the last book was helpful to you. read also my articles on this site.
