A Plea to Therapists

A Plea to Therapists
Wednesday August 29, 2007

Dear Alice Miller

I would like to extend my vast appreciation once more (I have written before) for your insights and how generously you share.

The purpose of this letter is to plead with therapists who embody your beliefs and who can act as enlightened witnesses to those of us who need their services. I would like to ask them to use such descriptions as ‘enlightened witness’ and ‘child abuse’ in their website listings. I know from previous letters that others, too, find it difficult to find such a person – even using “FAQ: How to find the right therapist” provided by you on your website. I live in Ireland and can’t find anyone suitable. Indeed I wonder if such a person really exists here. Again, so that they can be found by those who are willing and ready (and desperate, as I am) to deal with the trauma caused by their childhood abusers – to have it witnessed – I beg them to please advertise in a way that makes them stand out from the rest.

I would very much appreciate if you would publsh this letter. Many thanks SL

AM: Thank you for your letter that we are publishing here. About a week ago, I wrote an answer to a letter concerning the same issue (recommend a therapist, August 21). Try to find it on the web site.
