Interviews
Sunday January 10, 2010

Dear Ms. Miller,
I’m a sophomore in high school. I am currently writing a research paper about child abuse for my Honors English class. I was hoping you could answer a few questions for me to better my paper. If you can help me out, I apologize for the short notice but I would greatly appreciate it if you could get back to me by Tuesday January 12. Thank you for your time and I hope to hear from you. H

1. How did you become interested in promoting the prevention of child abuse?

2. What have been the most important changes throughout the history of child abuse? Has it gotten better or worse?

3. How is child abuse affecting us today? Have their been improvements to awareness and prevention?

4. What measures have been taken by the government to raise awareness about child abuse? Approximately, how much money has the government spent on the issue of abuse? Too much or too little?

5. What can be done to improve the situation in the community? What can teenagers like myself do to help the situation?

6. How will people benefit if we make changes?

7. What is your stance on foster care and group homes? Does it really benefit the child who was abused or worsen the situation for them?

8. Do you oppose to the statement that child abuse only occurs within low income families? What evidence is there to say that it does or doesn’t?

From the Team: You can find most of the answers you are asking for in the Interviews by Alice Miller, especially in the last one (see page “Interviews”) and of course in her recent book: From Rage to Courage.
