How to find a therapist who answers my questions
Monday March 09, 2009

Dear Alice Miller Your books have been my companions throughout many dark nights of the soul and journeys of healing for the past twenty years. I have previously been in therapy for 7 years in Australia which ended in 1998 dealing with severe childhood sexual abuse and trauma by my father and mother. My therapy was very much in tune with your approach in working with the inner child and I had a profound and deep healing as a result of the work we did together over those years. I have lived in the UK for the last 8 years. I am now in the midst of another dreadful trauma in my life after many years of joy and growth and healing and am desperately trying to find a therapist to work with using your approach to therapy. I have had some appalling experiences during my search to find a therapist in the UK over the past 18 months and am hoping that you would be able to recommend some therapists who I could then meet with to see if they are suited to my needs. I have always adopted the honest and questioning approach that you advocate when interviewing potential therapists even though it is often scary and takes a lot of courage but as you say if I honour what my inner child and body and intuitive voice are saying to me then it never fails to guide me. But I am just not able to find the person with whom I feel safe and who I sense can be that enlightened witness and who will help me to create a sacred container within which to do the work I must now do. Any guidance or recommendations you may be able to offer would be greatly appreciated. I would also like to thank you for your presence in my life through your words and the soul that speaks through them to my soul. CB

AM: Please read the first two messages on the page “articles”. If the therapist doesn’t want to answer your questions he or she will not be able to help you. You can only win by taking seriously what they show before you are engaging yourself with them. Fortunately, you made already a good experience in Australia so you will not become a victim of your own illusions.
